DUI Services

In 1977, the Alcohol Highway Safety Program in Pennsylvania was formalized as a result of revision of the motor vehicle code (Title 75). This provided for DUI coordinators to be named in each county under the direction of the President Judge of the county. A DUI coordinator oversees the Alcohol Highway Safety School (AHSS), the Court Reporting Network (CRN), and proper referrals for drug and alcohol treatment assessments. Specific conditions imposed in sentences may not allow individuals to be permitted to possess or consume alcohol while on supervision.

CRN is an acronym for Court Reporting Network Evaluation. The CRN evaluation is required for all DUI offenders in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The CRN evaluation is a pre-screening tool used to determine if you will be referred for a more comprehensive drug and alcohol assessment. It is also used as a statistical tool for Pennsylvania.

The Adams County DUI school program is certified through the Alcohol Highway Safety program of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to provide a 12.5-hour class required for DUI offenders. Instructors are certified through the PA DUI Association through the direction of the PA Department of Transportation. The objective of DUI school is to provide students with the basic knowledge and understanding of alcohol and controlled substances and their effects on metabolism and judgement, alcoholism, Classes are held monthly at the Adams County Human Services Building and typically fall on Tuesday and Thursday for two weeks from 5PM-845PM.   Please confer with your probation officer or the DUI coordinator about entry into the DUI school. Attendance is mandatory under Pennsylvania Law. Students must attend all scheduled classes unless granted an excused absence in advance.

DUI cases are typically processed through three alternatives:

1. Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition (ARD)

2. Probation with Restrictive Conditions (PRC)

3. If the case does not qualify for ARD or PRC, it will be sentenced in accordance with current DUI legislation and sentencing guidelines.
