What is a Private Detective?

A licensed private citizen who is authorized by the court to conduct investigations in criminal and civil matters. (22 P.S. §11 et seq.,
 “The Private Detective Act of 1953” (current through Act 1992-132)

What to File?

1. $10,000.00 Corporate Bond (approved by Court)
2. 2 Passport size photos
3. 2 sets of fingerprints of each hand
4. Proof of Citizenship of U.S.
5. Past and present employment
6. Address of Place of business
7. Certification of Citizen of Community (at least 5)
8. Application must be verified by Petitioner
9. Filing Fee payable to Clerk of Courts and self addressed postage prepaid envelope for returning order.
    a. $230.50 for individual applicant
    b. $330.50 for firm, partnership, association, or corporation.
1. With separate check payable to Commonwealth of PA for $17.50 (each person)
1. Clerk will docket and send information to Courts
2. The Judge will enter an Order of Court which will be distributed by Clerk of Courts
3. The license is generally issued for two years however renewals may be issued for five years.
1. A Private Detective License will be issued signed by the Court
2. Each applicant will receive a pocket card
3. Each applicant will receive one metal badge. There is a $65.00 replacement fee for metal badge. 
1. Provide renewal form or applicant may make request to the Court
    a. Include a self addressed postage prepaid envelope for service of the order.
2. Filing fee
    a. $225.50 for individual applicant
    b. $325.50 for firm, partnership, association, or corporation.
3. File bond renewal proof
1. File resignation in writing
2. Return metal badge to Clerk of Courts Office
