Legal Journal
Legal Journal
First published in 1959, The Adams County Legal Journal is formatted as a pamphlet and designated a newspaper of record for distributing Court and other legal notices. It is published weekly on Fridays by the Adams County Bar Association and is available free online. (It is also available at palegalads.org, which has all issues back to and including 2009.) See the two links on the right. The top one offers a short tutorial on how to utilize the site to the fullest; because the display may not be the most user friendly, the tutorial is well worth your time. The digital graphcompubs.com site preserves issues back to May 23, 2008.
All issues from May 2008 to 1959 will eventually be digitized and posted at the “Old Issues” link. Contents will include both Court Opinions as well as legal ads.
TO SUBMIT A REQUEST FOR PLACEMENT OF A LEGAL AD IN THE JOURNAL:
The cost of legal ads is determined either by “line charge” or by a flat fee of $80. All prices include the cost of a notarized proof of publication sent to you for your legal records.
Examples of the $80 flat fee are: Estate (or Trust) notice, Fictitious Name registration, Name change, Dissolution notice, Charter/Incorporation Notice, Articles of Amendment, Sale of Property, Admission to Bar, Notice of Filing of Petition, Vehicle Title Search, and Replevin or Replevin Hearing.
It is better to contact the Business Manager Dr. B. Bohleke (bắh-lĕh-kee) during business hours (M-F 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) at 717-337-9812 or Contact the Law Library for the cost of ads that are billed via line charge. The line charge is dependent upon the length of the final draft for your ad.
Ads can be brought to Room 305 in person, sent via the email address above, or by U.S. mail to:
Law Library, Room 305
117 Baltimore Street
Gettysburg, PA 17325
Because credit/debit cards cannot be accepted at this time, bring or mail a check made out to the “Adams County Bar Association” to the Law Library address. You may send the ad via email and the check by U.S. mail or send them together in the U.S. mail.
REMEMBER to include your mailing address and phone number in your communications so Dr. B knows where to send the proof of publication and whom to call if your email address does not work properly.
Free templates are available if you are unsure how to phrase your ad.
The Business Manager cannot dispense legal advice.
For those who need to publish a legal ad in a second newspaper of record in Adams County, contact Ms. Carolyn Schreiber at the Gettysburg Times by sending the ad to class@gettysburgtimes.com. She will get back to you about the cost to place the ad, which will approximate the line charge of the Legal Journal.
